Your calendar says June 2017, but the color forecast trend reports are telling you 2018 is right around the corner. That’s right, it’s the time of year when companies that deal in color start releasing their trends for the next year. While the Pantone Color of the Year tends to get the most attention online, paint companies, magazines and other color forecasting companies also release their versions of what they think will be hot in the coming year. We’ll keep adding to this post as more colors are announced. Our first two come from the paint companies Sherwin-Williams and PPG Paints.
First up for 2018 is Sherwin-Williams with their Colormix Forecast for 2018, which they release a few months before the official “Color of the Year.” They have three what I will call “mood palettes” this year: Sincerity, Connectivity and Affinity. Each of these Colormix mood palettes contains a set of 12 coordinating colors with influences like “Silence,” “Hygge,” “California Pop,” and “Artisanal Crafts.” With so many choices, it is hard to see any one trend coming through, except that this seems to be a confirmation that the many items trending on platforms like Etsy and Pinterest will continue to have a place in home design.
Next we go in a different direction with PPG Paints. They’ve selected “Black Flame” as their Color of the Year. Bold? Absolutely! Something that can work in your home? Yes! And you do find hints of dark in the three Sherwin-Williams palettes so it will be interesting to see if other companies follow suit.
Like we said, we’ll keep updating this post as more companies share their Color Forecast for 2018 so check back for updates!
